This is What a Dominant Win Looks Like

The Valkyries win over the Storm on Sunday June 29 was dominant. There are so many ways that we can put this:
The Storm shot 27% from the field on Sunday. This season they are averaging 45.7% from the field. This means that the Storm are usually shooting the second-best percentage in the WNBA. But on Sunday against the Valkyries they shot what would be dead last (by a mile) in the WNBA.
Same goes for the 3-point percentage. The Storm usually shoot second-best in the league at 35.9%. On Sunday against the Valkyries they shot 21.4% from three.
The Valkyries shot 48.4% from the field--which would be the first in the WNBA. Across the season, the Valkyries shoot 40.1% from the field, which is tied for second to last.
The Valkyries led the entire game. It was 7-0 before the Storm scored a single point and we never looked back. And--to be honest--it never felt close.
The Storm's superstar Nneka Ogwumike, who is a Bonafide superstar, shot 3-10, scored only 8 points, and was -24. And the Storm's exciting #2 draft pick and (hopeful) future star, Dominique Malonga, shot 1-8 and was not effective on the court.
It is a true pleasure to support a team that works its tail off, that plays hard defense, that moves without the ball, that wins based on effort and execution. Sunday felt like a wonderful celebration of this team.
Oh right. And the legend Dawn Staley was in the house to see the dominant win. That was awesome!
Valkyries are on a long road trip to start July. Next home game is on July 14 against the Mercury. Excited to see how the team plays!
