The first Ballhalla regular season game is in the record books! Great team effort and lots for Coach Nakase to build on as the season progresses. Despite the L, it was a night to remember for the packed crowd cheering on GSV. If you couldn’t make the game, here are a few tidbits from the evening:
Golden State Warriors in Attendance. On the sideline near center court (opposite the players’ benches) Jonathan Kuminga sat next to Gold State Warriors and Valkyries owner Joe Lacob. About a dozen seats to Kuminga’s right was Steve Kerr. At the opposite sideline sat Kevon Looney. And on the baseline nearest the Valkyries Buddy Hield sat next to Brad Podziemski. It was great to see their support.
GSV Chant and Striking the Drum. The game opened with a San Francisco Pioneers legend striking a very large drum while the crowd chanted “G” “S” “V.” It was fun, and I hope they keep this tradition for all home games!
Violet Looks Great. Violet shirts that read “First of a Lifetime!” were waiting for attendees at their seats and the crowd was a sea of violet. It’s a softer look than the Yellow and Gold that usually covers the Chase Center floor.
Still No Mascot. The wait for a Golden State Valkyries mascot continues. There were murmurs from fans in our section that we might not see a mascot at all this year. While I’m really looking forward to the mascot, this isn’t a project to rush. If the team needs more time to pick out the perfect Valkyries mascot, then take the time!
Final score: Valkyries 67 – Sparks 84. Kayla Thorton hit the first shot in GSV history. Kelsey Plum dropped 37 on only 19 field goals.
