Emergency Blog - A Devastating Injury

About an hour ago the Valkyries posted on their Instagram that Kayla Thornton "suffered an injury to her right knee earlier this week in practice, underwent a successful surgery earlier today in San Francisco" and "will be out for the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season[.]"

This is obviously first and foremost hugely disappointing for KT--a first-time WNBA All-Star and a true leader of this new team. She has led the Valkyries with grit and tenacity and energy and has been a bright star in this very bright first season. We are pulling for KT in every way possible and are so excited for her complete recovery and to see her on the court next season.

But--as the blog about being a Valkyries fan--we also have to note that this is crushing for the new fanbase. This is our first devastating injury. There will be more. But this will always be the first. And at this point in the season--with the playoff landscape starting to potentially, in the next week or two, take form--this one hurts.
